Sri Stambha Narasimha Swamy Temple Billur. There are many Temples in our sacred India, reflecting our ancient Culture and Tradition. In addition to these Temples, there are existing great mountains, rivers, waterfalls, gardens in Natural Form in various places and creating spirituality and divinity in the minds of the people.Billur is a historically famous village situated between the Andhra and Karnataka borders, Billur is popular since 1300 years and was previously known as Bilanur.
A beautiful Temple of Sri Stambha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy is situated in this village. This was constructed during the Chola dynasty in the 13th century. At the time of construction the idol was found to be growing day-by-day and also Gopurams & other constructions were becoming unstable due to the continuous growth of the Stambha (the pillar).
Then the Asthana Silpi hammered the idol with an iron rod and it was learnt that the growth had stopped since then. The depth of the lower part of the pillar under the ground is not known, but above the ground the upper part of the Stambha is 16 ft high on which the portrait of the Lord Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy along with shankhu and chakra is naturally engraved. There are clear evidences of the construction of the Mukha Mandapam during the reign of Sri Krishna Devaraya.
The temple is being renovated with the initiative of Sri Kodur Ramamurthy, son of late Smt. Muttaidamma and Sri Siva Sarma, residents of Billur. Sri Rama Murthy, resident of Sydney, Australia, a Civil Engineering Consultant and Contractor by profession, came forward to renovate and re-construct the temple and instate all the temple services and traditions for the peace and prosperity of the the people.
